Wabe

WABE 90.1 is a radio station in Atlanta, Georgia that is affiliated with National Public Radio. WABE has a mostly classical music format, but airs newscasts from NPR as well. The station is owned and operated by the Atlanta Board of Education (hence the callsign "ABE"). The station's signal reaches practically all of the northwestern and north central parts of the state. It is the dominant public radio station in metropolitan Atlanta; Georgia Public Broadcasting serves most of the remainder of the state with such programs.

"Jabberwocky" is a poem of nonsense verse written by Lewis Carroll, and found as a part of his novel Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (1871). It is generally considered to be one of the greatest nonsense poems written in the English language. This poem is used in many schools to teach students about the use of portmanteaux.

Eine Wabe ist eine Zelle eines Musters aus flächig angeordneten sechseckigen Hohlräumen. Im engeren Sinne versteht man darunter von Honigbienen aus Wachs geformte Teile ihres Nests, die zum Lagern von Honig und zur Aufzucht der Brut verwendet werden - siehe Bienenwabe. Auch Hummeln bauen Waben, diese sind jedoch nicht derart regelmäßig aufgebaut wie diejenigen der BienenAber auch Echte Wespen bauen Waben, jedoch verkleben sie dazu Fasern aus verwittertem Holz zu einer Art Papier (sie werden daher auch „Papierwespen“ genannt).

Jabberwocky [] ist der Titel eines berühmten Unsinns-Gedichts von Lewis Carroll aus dem Buch Alice hinter den Spiegeln (1871). Ein großer Teil der verwendeten Worte ist erfunden. Das Gedicht erzielt seine Wirkung durch Lautmalereien und Wort-Assoziationen. Eine Übersetzung im traditionellen Sinn ist nicht möglich, es gibt jedoch zahlreiche Nachdichtungen in den verschiedensten Sprachen. Deutsche Übertragungen existieren von Robert Scott, Lieselotte & Martin Remane und Christian Enzensberger.

Die WABE in Berlin ist eine kulturelle Veranstaltungsstätte. Sie ist die größte kommunale Kultureinrichtung im Berliner Bezirk Prenzlauer Berg/Pankow. Die WABE wurde 1986 auf dem Gelände der IV. Städtischen Gasanstalt in der Form eines Oktogon gebaut und ist Teil des Kulturzentrums im Ernst-Thälmann-Park an der Kreuzung Danziger Straße und Greifswalder Straße.

Jabberwocky - wiersz Lewisa Carrolla pochodzący z jego książki Po drugiej stronie lustra. Wiersz powszechnie uważany jest za jeden z najznakomitszych przykładów wiersza absurdalnego w języku angielskim.W wierszu znajduje się wiele słów wymyślonych przez Carrolla (portmanteau). Przekład tego wiersza stanowi problem dla tłumaczy, największe wyzwanie stanowi przetłumaczenie wymyślonych przez Carrolla słów. Większość tłumaczących wymyśla własne słowa kierując się wyjaśnieniami znaczeń neologizmów podanymi przez Carrolla w treści książki, np. stworzony przez Carrolla wyraz "mimsy" powstały z połączenia wyrazów "miserable" (ang. nędzny, nieszczęśliwy, żałosny) and "flimsy" (ang. lichy, marny) tłumaczono na "smutcholijny" powstały z połączenia wyrazów "smutny" i "melancholijny".
