Wave
A wave is a mode of
energy transfer from one place to another, often with little or no permanent displacement of the particles of the medium (i.e. little or no associated mass transport); instead there are
oscillations around almost fixed positions. Thus, while mechanical waves require a medium to transverse the distance, electromagnetic waves can travel through a
vacuum.

Une onde est la
propagation d'une
perturbation produisant sur son passage une variation réversible de
propriétés physiques locales. Elle transporte de l'énergie sans transporter de
matière. Physiquement parlant, une onde est un champ. C'est à dire une zone de l'espace dont les propriétés sont modifiées, on affecte à chaque point de l'espace des grandeurs physiques scalaires ou vectorielles.

Un'onda è una perturbazione che si propaga attraverso lo spazio. Ad eccezione della
radiazione elettromagnetica, ed a livello teorico della
radiazione gravitazionale, che possono propagarsi nel vuoto, le onde esistono in un mezzo (che per deformazione è in grado di produrre forze elastiche di ritorno). Attraverso di esso esse possono viaggiare e trasferire
energia da un punto all'altro, senza che alcuna particella del mezzo venga dislocata permanentemente: non esiste, quindi, un trasporto di massa associato, ogni punto
oscilla attorno a una posizione fissa.
