WASP

A wasp is any insect of the order Hymenoptera and suborder Apocrita that is not a bee or ant. The suborder Symphyta includes the sawflies and wood wasps, which differ from members of Apocrita by having a broader connection between the mesosoma and metasoma. In addition to this, Symphyta larvae are mostly herbivorous and "caterpillarlike", whereas those of Apocrita are largely predatory or "parasitic" (technically known as parasitoid).

The Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome Protein (WASp) is a 502-amino acid protein that is expressed in cells of the hematopoietic system. In the inactive state, WASp exists in an auto-inhibited conformation with sequences near its C-terminus binding to a region near its N-terminus. Its activation is dependent upon Cdc42 and PIP2 acting to disrupt this interaction causing the WASp protein to 'open'. This exposes a domain near the WASp C-Terminus that binds to and activates the Arp2/3 complex. Activated Arp2/3 nucleates new F-actin. WASp is the founding member of a gene family which also includes the broadly expressed N-WASP (neuronal Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome protein), and Scar.

Die Echten Wespen (Vespinae) sind eine Unterfamilie der Faltenwespen (Vespidae) mit weltweit 61 Arten. In Mitteleuropa kommen elf Arten der Echten Wespen vor, die bis auf die Hornisse vom Aussehen den Feldwespen (Polistinae), einer anderen Unterfamilie der Faltenwespen, ähneln und deshalb oft mit diesen verwechselt werden. Gelegentlich werden die ebenfalls staatenbildenden Feldwespen auch zu den Echten Wespen gerechnet.

Die Panzerhaubitze Wespe (Sd.Kfz. 124) war eine selbstfahrende Feldhaubitze der deutschen Wehrmacht im Zweiten Weltkrieg.Die korrekte Bezeichnung lautete Leichte Feldhaubitze 18/2 auf Fahrgestell PzKpfw II (Sf) Wespe, (Sd.Kfz. 124). Am 27. Februar 1944 wurde die Nutzung des Namens Wespe auf Weisung von Adolf Hitler als unpassend für ein Kampffahrzeug untersagt.

WASP (sprich: [wɒsp]) ist ein Akronym von White Anglo-Saxon Protestant und bezeichnet eine Bevölkerungsgruppe in den USA mit eben diesen Merkmalen: weiße Hautfarbe, protestantischer Glaube und englische Abstammung. Es ist ein zumeist abschätzig verwendeter Begriff zur sprachlichen Bezeichnung einer ethnischen Gruppe, bzw. der Kultur, den Gebräuchen und dem Erbe der Gründung der USA.Der Begriff grenzt die frühen Kolonisatoren mit ihrem überproportional großen Einfluss innerhalb der US-amerikanischen Eliten von späteren Einwanderern sowohl europäischer (z.B. irischer, italienischer, deutscher) als auch außereuropäischer Herkunft ab. Zum erstenmal wurde der Begriff von irischen Katholiken gegen die englischen Protestanten (Baptisten, Methodisten, Lutheraner, Reformierte) verwendet.

Augustianie (Zakon Świętego Augustyna - OSA) - zgromadzenie zakonne powstałe 1 marca 1256 roku po zjednoczeniu różnych wspólnot eremickich, które żyły według reguły świętego Augustyna z Hippony. Zakon augustianów jest zaliczany do zakonów żebrzących. Ubiorem jest czarny habit z kapturem i skórzanym pasem. Do Polski (konkretnie do Krakowa) zostali sprowadzeni z Czech w 1342 roku przez króla Kazimierza Wielkiego. Samodzielna polska prowincja zakonna powstała 6 lipca 1547 roku. W 1950 roku zniesieni przez ówczesnego metropolitę krakowskiego księcia Adama Kardynała Sapiehę, reaktywowani w początku lat osiemdziesiątych XX wieku. Obecnie prowincja polska posiada 3 klasztory: dwa w Krakowie i jeden w Łomiankach k. Warszawy. Na przestrzeni wieków augustianie dali Kościołowi 12 świętych i 80 błogosławionych. Pierwszym błogosławionym augustianinem pochodzącym z Polski ma szansę być Izajasz Boner (1399-1471). Augustianie prowadzą swoje apostolaty wśród ludzi chorych, ubogich, upośledzonych i odrzuconych na margines społeczeństwa.

Osa (Vespula) - rodzaj owadów charakteryzujący się kontrastowym ubarwieniem, zazwyczaj żółto-czarnym, oraz posiadaniem żądła stanowiącego naturalną broń w razie zagrożenia, a także ułatwiającego uśmiercenie ofiary. Osy osiągają do 30 mm długości ciała.Żyją w gromadach, zakładając gniazda przeważnie kulistego kształtu, z szarej masy przypominającej papier, uzyskiwanej w wyniku przeżuwania drewna, mieszanego następnie ze śliną. Wewnątrz gniazda znajduje się plaster zawierający złożone przez królową jaja, otoczony licznymi powłokami masy papierowej zapewniającymi ochronę przed zimnem rozwijającym się jajom, a następnie larwom.
