WAGs (or Wags) was an acronym used particularly (but by no means exclusively) by the British tabloid press to describe the Wives And Girlfriends of the England national football team. It came into common use during the 2006 World Cup, held in Germany, although it had been used occasionally before that.

Wag est une ancienne province de la région Amhara en Éthiopie, à l'emplacement de l'actuelle zone de Wag Hemra. La capitale de la province était la ville de Sokota, qui fut un lieu de commerce majeur pendant des siècles.

WAGs is een acroniem voor Wives And Girlfriends (Engels, 'Vrouwen en vriendinnen'), dat vooral (maar niet uitsluitend) gebruikt werd door de Engelse boulevardpers (Tabloids) en stond voor vrouwen en vriendinnen van Engelse voetbalspelers. De term werd vooral gebruikt tijdens het WK voetbal 2006, al bestond de term eerder. Oorspronkelijk werd dus geschreven WAGs, maar snel werd het in enkelvoud gebruikt: 'WAG', hoewel dat strikt gelezen niet correct is (' een Vrouwen en Vriendin'?). Later werd ook geïntroduceerd: 'RAGs' voor Royalty And Girlfriends, d.w.z. de kroonprinsen en hun vriendinnen. Grappig effect is dat rags staat voor armoede ('rafels').
