WAG

Wag is a highland district in the Amhara Region of Ethiopia, in the approximate location of the modern Wag Hemra Zone. The district seat is the town of Sokota, which has been a major market center for centuries. Wag was given to the heirs of the deposed Zagwe dynasty, when the Solomonic dynasty was restored to the throne of Ethiopia in 1270. The head of the fallen Zagwe family accepted the district as well as the title of Wagshum as part of the settlement for their loss.

Wag (słow. Váh, węg. Vág, niem. Waag) - rzeka w zachodniej Słowacji, w dorzeczu Dunaju. Długość - 403 km, powierzchnia zlewni - 10.640 km², średni roczny przepływ u ujścia - 196 m³/s. Do dorzecza Wagu należy także polska część Orawy. Nazwa "Wag" (Vah) pochodzi podobno od łacińskiego słowa vagus - "błąkający się", "zmienny" - co ma odzwierciedlać zauważoną już w czasach rzymskich zmienność przebiegu koryta rzeki w jej dolnym biegu. Wag powstaje z połączenia dwóch niewielkich rzek: Białego Wagu (Biely Váh) i Czarnego Wagu (Čierny Váh), płynących na zachód po przeciwnych stronach Kotliny Liptowskiej. Biały Wag ma 30,3 km długości, wypływa z Zielonego Stawu Krywańskiego w Tatrach na wysokości około 2050 m n.p.m. i zbiera wody z potoków spływających z południowych zboczy Tatr. Czarny Wag, długości 39 km, powstaje z połączenia potoków spływających z północnych zboczy masywu Kráľova hoľa w Niżnych Tatrach, na wysokości około 1680 m n.p.m. Obie te rzeki zbiegają się koło wsi Kráľova Lehota, na wysokości 663 m n.p.m.
