Vought A-7

The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II is a carrier-based subsonic light attack aircraft design that was introduced to replace the A-4 Skyhawk in US Naval service and based on the successful supersonic F-8 Crusader aircraft produced by Chance Vought. The A-7 was one of the first combat aircraft to feature a head-up display (HUD), doppler-bounded inertial navigation system (INS), and a turbofan engine. It initially entered service with the United States Navy during the Vietnam conflict and was then adopted by the United States Air Force to replace their A-1 Skyraiders that were borrowed from the Navy as well as with the Air National Guard. It was exported to Greece (in the 1970s), Portugal, and Thailand (in the late 1980s).

Le A-7 Corsair II est un avion d'attaque destiné à être embarqué à bord de porte-avions, construit par les États-Unis au milieu des années 1960 et dérivé du F-8 Crusader. Largement utilisé pendant la Guerre du Vietnam, il s'est révélé être robuste, fiable, avec un rayon d'action et une capacité d'emport très intéressants. Il Vought A-7 Corsair II è un aereo da attacco al suolo di costruzione statunitense molto potente e a suo tempo moderno, pur se non ha mai ottenuto lo stesso successo del predecessore Skyhawk, molto più piccolo e leggero. In servizio dalla metà degli anni '60 sulle navi della Marina USA, e pochi anni dopo in versioni derivate per l'Aeronautica (che non possedeva macchine simili nel suo inventario), il Corsair non ha avuto aggiornamenti importanti e verso l'inizio degli anni '90 venne ritirato dal servizio negli USA. Venne esportato anche in Grecia e Portogallo, mentre nel 1995 la Thailandia acquistò 18 A-7 ex-US Navy.
