The Volta is a river in western Africa that drains into the Gulf of Guinea. It has three main tributaries—the Black Volta, White Volta and Red Volta. The river gave its name to French Upper Volta and then the Republic of Upper Volta before that country was renamed Burkina Faso in 1984.

Elle est formée par la confluence de la Volta Noire (aujourd'hui : Mouhoun), la Volta Blanche (aujourd'hui : Nakambé) et la Volta Rouge (aujourd'hui : Nazinon). Ce fleuve donna autrefois son nom à un pays, la Haute-Volta, avant qu'il prenne le nom de Burkina Faso en 1984.

Floderna rinner genom Burkina Faso och förenas till en flod i Ghana, som mynnar i Guineabukten öster om Accra.

Wolta (ang. Volta River, fr. Fleuve Volta) - rzeka w Afryce Zachodniej, przepływa przez Burkinę Faso i Ghanę. Wolta powstaje z połączenia trzech rzek: Wolty Czarnej (zwanej też Mouhoun), Wolty Białej (Nakambé) i Wolty Czerwonej (dopływu Wolty Białej, zwanego też Nazinon). Długość rzeki od źródeł Wolty Czarnej wynosi około 1500 km, a powierzchnia jej dorzecza - 394 tys. km². Rzeka uchodzi niewielką deltą do Zatoki Gwinejskiej. Jej główne dopływy to: Pra, Sene, Afram (prawe) oraz Daka i Oti (lewe). Przepływy wody w rzece są nieregularne i odznaczają się bardzo dużymi wahaniami od 14 m³/s do 15 tys. m³/s.
