Visigoths

The Visigoths (Western Goths) were one of two main branches of the Goths, an East Germanic tribe (the Ostrogoths being the other). Together these tribes were among the loosely-termed Germanic peoples who disturbed the late Roman Empire during the Migration Period. Most famously, a Visigothic force led by Alaric I sacked Rome in 410.After the collapse of the western Roman Empire, the Visigoths played a major role in western European affairs for another two and a half centuries.

Les Wisigoths (en allemand Westgoten, ou Goths de l'Ouest, ou encore Tervinges) étaient un peuple germanique d'origine scandinave, issu de la Suède méridionale et incorporé tardivement dans l'Occident romain. Après la chute officielle de l'Empire romain occidental (476), les Wisigoths ont continué pendant près de 250 ans à jouer un rôle important en Europe occidentale. C'est peut être le peuple barbare le plus prestigieux d'Europe, tant par sa longue histoire et ses origines mythiques, que par ses traces qu'il laissa longtemps dans les esprits.

Als Tolosanisches Reich wird nach der Hauptstadt Tolosa (heute Toulouse) das von 418 bis 507 bestehende Reich der Westgoten in Südfrankreich bezeichnet, gelegentlich auch das bis 711 auf der iberischen Halbinsel weiterbestehende Reich (eigentlich Toledanisches Reich).

I Visigoti, popolo di origine germanica, appartenente alla Tribù dei Goti, furono tra quei popoli barbari, che, con le loro migrazioni, contribuirono alla crisi e alla caduta dell'Impero romano. Dopo la fine dell'Impero Romano d'Occidente nel 476 (data canonica), i Visigoti giocarono un ruolo molto importante nello scacchiere europeo per altri due secoli e mezzo.
