OpenVMS (Open Virtual Memory System), previously known as VAX-11/VMS, VAX/VMS or (informally) VMS, is a computer server operating system that runs on VAX, Alpha and Itanium-based families of computers. Contrary to what its name suggests, OpenVMS is not open source software; however, the source listings are available for purchase. Unlike many other mainframe-oriented operating systems, OpenVMS has a graphical user interface (GUI) with complete graphics support. Digital Equipment Corporation's VAX was one of the three top-selling workstations lines in the 1980s and 1990s. VMS had support for professional DTP and CAE software. Software for AXP based systems was promoted by Digital's ASAP program (Association of Software and Application Partners) and could be found in the extensive "Alpha Applications Catalog". AXP VMS supported OpenGL and Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) graphics adapters.

Das Virtual Memory System (VMS) ist ein Betriebssystem des Computerherstellers Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) für seine Virtual Address eXtension (VAX)-Rechner. Es war zur Zeit der Veröffentlichung ein ausgesprochen fortschrittliches 32-Bit-Betriebssystem, das Mehrbenutzer- und Multitasking-fähig war. Es war zudem eines der ersten Betriebssysteme mit virtueller Speicherverwaltung, welches auch die Namensgebung begründet. Heute ist OpenVMS in 64-Bit-Versionen verfügbar.

Virtual Memory System (VMS) est un système d'exploitation propriétaire  créé par DEC en 1977 pour ses ordinateurs VAX. Le système a depuis été porté sur les processeurs DEC Alpha, et enfin Itanium. C'est Hewlett-Packard qui détient actuellement les droits sur VMS, dont les dernières versions sont nommées OpenVMS, en raison de la présence d'une couche de compatibilité POSIX.

OpenVMS, är ett operativsystem för datorer i transaktionsintensiva miljöer. "VMS" är en akronym som står för Virtual Memory System (virtuellt minnessystem). OpenVMS hette från början enbart VMS, men man lade till ordet open ('öppen') för att visa att systemet stödjer industristandarder som exempelvis Unix- och POSIX-kompatibilitet, men systemet är inte i sig själv öppen källkod.

VMS (ang. Virtual Memory System), co można tłumaczyć jako "system z obsługą pamięci wirtualnej", to serwerowy system operacyjny opracowany przez firmę  Digital (Digital Equipment Corporation) dla produkowanych przez siebie dużych komputerów z rodziny VAX oraz późniejszych z rodziny Alpha. Firma Digital w 1998 r. przejęta została przez  Compaq, a w 2002 r. razem z Compaqiem przez koncern  Hewlett-Packard.
