Vindobona (Celtic/Gaulish windo- "fair/white/blessed", bona "base/bottom", presumably so-named from its geological/topological position) was originally a Celtic settlement, and later a Roman military camp on the site of the modern city of Vienna in Austria. Around 15 BC, the kingdom of Noricum was included in the Roman Empire. Henceforth, the Danube marked the border of the empire, and the Romans built fortifications and settlements on the banks of the Danube, including Vindobona.

Vindobona war eine keltische Siedlung an der Donau, wo sich die heutige Stadt Wien befindet. Um 15 v. Chr. wurde das Königreich Noricum dem römischen Reich einverleibt und die Donau wurde damit zur Reichsgrenze. Vindobona wurde als römisches Legionslager adaptiert, als die Römer entlang der Donau Befestigungen und Siedlungen anlegten.

Tu też w 180 cesarz Kommodus zawarł pokój z Markomanami i Kwadami, kończący wojny markomańskie. Obóz legionów został zniszczony w V w. przez plemiona germańskie.
