Vidar

In Norse mythology, Víðarr (often Anglicised Vidar or Widar) is a god associated with vengeance and is the son of Odin and the giantess Gríd. His major deed in the mythology is to avenge his father's death at Ragnarök and is one of the few gods destined to survive that final conflict.

Vidar (vieux norrois Viðarr) est dans la mythologie nordique le fils d'Odinn et de la géante Grid. Vidar est le dieu Ase de la forêt, de la vengeance et du silence. Sa salle s'appelle Vidi, l'endroit le plus calme d'Ásgard. Il est l'un des dieux les plus forts, avec Thor, Magni et Modi. Certaines histoires font mentions de chaussures magiques, totalement indestructibles dont Vidar serait le propriétaire et que le jour du Ragnarök, il vengera son père Odin en arrachant la mâchoire de Fenrir de sa main et de son pied. Il survivra au massacre, et lorsque Baldr reviendra d'entre les morts pour règner sur les neuf mondes, il fera partie des nouveaux dieux majeurs.

Vidar (auch anord. Víðar, Widar, Vidarr - „der weithin Herrschende”) ist in der germanischen Mythologie der Gott des Waldes, der Rache und des Schweigens. Er ist der Sohn des Gottes Odin und der Eisriesin Grid (auch: Gridr) und trägt in der Dichtung den Beinamen Der schweigsame Ase. Er ist den Asen stets eine gute Stütze und der einzige, der von Lokis hetzenden Reden in der Halle Thryms verschont blieb. Er hat einen Schuh aus Stahl, der unverwundbar und unzerstörbar ist. Nach Thor ist Vidar der stärkste Ase, ähnlich wie Vali ist er auch ein geborener Rächergott, der sich sein ganzes Leben darauf vorbereitet, den Tod Odins in der Schlacht um Ragnarök zu rächen.

Ten wymieniany w Eddzie bóg ciszy i zemsty, który przeżyje Ragnarök i pomści śmierć Odyna, zabijając Fenrira. Miał tego dokonać, przydeptując jedną nogą dolną szczękę potwornego wilka, a rękami rozewrzeć jego paszczę i rozedrzeć ją na kawałki. Jego przyrodnim bratem był Wali, syn Odyna i Rind, który również miał ocaleć z Ragnaroku.

Víðarr (spesso erroneamente anglicizzato in Vidar o Widar) è una divinità della mitologia norrena. Il suo nome è forse da mettere in relazione con l'aggettivo víðr: "ampio". Detto "il silenzioso", Víðarr è figlio del dio Odino e della gigantessa Gríðr, ed è il più forte tra gli Dèi, dopo Thor. E' appunto un Dio della vendetta, uno tra gli Aesir a cui va attribuito un potenziale umano, e non riferito alla natura. La sua dimora si chiama Viði ("boscosa").
