Vertical Squeeze Trick
(A.k.a. 16:9 mode on a 4:3 TV set) Adjusting the vertical size control (height control) downward so all the scan lines (the raster) occupy a space of the desired aspect ratio (usually 16:9). Used to play 16:9 enhanced DVD's on 4:3 TV sets with with increased sharpness compared with the 4:3 setting on the DVD player. Whether a particular TV set can use this technique is a matter of luck since the adjustment may be complicated or may have side effects such as misconvergence.
