Varima-te-takere
In the mythology of MangaiaCook Islands, Varima-te-takere lives in the lowest levels of Avaiki, the underworld. She plucks off a piece from her right side and it becomes the future father of gods and men, who is called Vatea (Tregear 1891:392).

[Polynesian] "The Woman of the Very Beginning". The polynesian goddess of beginning, the great mother of the gods and of humans. She lives in the lowest hall of Avaiki. She is the mother of the Creator god Vatea and grandmother of the god Tangaroa.
