Vanua Levu (
IPA: []), formerly known as Sandalwood Island, is the second largest
island of
Fiji. Located 64 kilometres to the north of the larger
Viti Levu, the island has an area of 5,587.1 km² and a population of some 130,000.

Fidschi. Sie trug früher den Namen Sandalwood Island.Vanua Levu liegt etwa 70 km nördlich von Fidschis größter Insel
Viti Levu und ähnelt in ihrer Form einem spitzen Dreieck. Auf der Insel leben etwa 130.000 Einwohner. Größte Siedlung ist die Stadt
Labasa. Wichtigster Wirtschaftszweig Vanua Levus ist die
Zucker-, aber auch die
Kopraproduktion. Daneben spielt auch der Tourismus zunehmend eine Rolle.

Viti Levu. Znana dawniej jako Wyspa Drzewa Sandałowego (
ang. Sandalwood Island). Położona jest około 70 km na północ od Viti Levu. Zajmuje powierzchnię ok. 5,6 tys. km². Wyspa ma wydłużony kształt o długości ok. 180 km. Na południowym wybrzeżu wyspy znajduje się długi
półwysep, wychodzący w głąb Morza Koro. Wyspa otoczona jest
rafami koralowymi. Jej wnętrze jest górzyste, najwyższy szczyt Nasorolevu sięga 1032 m n.p.m.

Vanua Levu
Vanua Levu is het op één na grootste eiland in
Fiji. Het is 5538 km² groot en het hoogste punt is 1032 m. Op het eiland wonen ongeveer 130.000 mensen, vooral in de steden Labasa en Savusavu. Rondom het eiland bevinden zich
koraalriffen.Op het eiland, vooral in het noorden, wordt
suiker geproduceerd. Ook
copra is een belangrijk gewas.
