Vanersborg

Vänersborg is a city (pop. 22,000) in Västergötland, Sweden and the seat of Vänersborg Municipality, Västra Götaland County. Until 1997 it was the capital of Älvsborg County, which was dissolved in 1998.

Vänersborg Municipality (Vänersborgs kommun) is one of the 290 municipalities of Sweden, situated in Västra Götaland County. Its seat is the town Vänersborg.The present municipality was created during the local government reform in the early 1970-ies. In 1971 the City of Vänersborg became a municipality of unitary type and three years later it was amalgamated with three surrounding minicipalities. The number original locla government entities (as of 1863) is eight.
