Vancouver
Vancouver is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The 2011 census recorded more than 603,000 people in the city, making it the eighth largest among Canadian cities. The metropolitan area, with more than 2.3 million residents, is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country and the most populous in Western Canada. With 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per sq mile), the City of Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality among those with 5,000 residents or more. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada, with 52 or whom English is not their first language.

Vancouver
Vancouver [] ist eine Stadt im Südwesten von British Columbia an der Westküste Kanadas. Sie liegt zwischen der Straße von Georgia und den Coast Mountains, rund 45 Kilometer nordwestlich der Grenze zu den USA. Die Stadt gehört zum Regionaldistrikt Metro Vancouver, der mit 2,25 Millionen Einwohnern (2007) die größte Metropolregion Westkanadas und die drittgrößte des Landes bildet. Die Bevölkerungszahl der eigentlichen Stadt Vancouver beträgt 611.869 (2007). Benannt ist die Stadt nach dem britischen Kapitän George Vancouver, der die Region Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts erforschte und vermaß. Der Name Vancouver selbst stammt vom niederländischen „van Coevorden“, abgeleitet von der Stadt Coevorden.

Vancouver
Vancouver är en kuststad belägen i regionen Lower Mainland i British Columbia i det sydvästra hörnet av Kanada. Staden har fått sitt namn från den brittiske kaptenen George Vancouver, som utforskade området på 1790-talet. Namnet Vancouver i sig själv har sitt ursprung i det holländska "van Coevorden", vilket betyder "person från Coevorden", en stad i Nederländerna.

Vancouver (Kolumbia Brytyjska)
Vancouver – miasto w zachodniej Kanadzie, w prowincji Kolumbia Brytyjska, przy ujściu rzeki Fraser do Pacyfiku. Stacja końcowa transkontynentalnej Kolei Transkanadyjskiej.
Miasto ma 545 tys. mieszkańców (2001). Zespół miejski (Greater Vancouver Regional District) ma 1,987 mln mieszkańców (2001). Jest trzecim co do wielkości miastem Kanady po Toronto i Montrealu. W 2010 miasto będzie gospodarzem Zimowych Igrzysk Olimpijskich. Vancouver rozwinął się jako miasto spośród wielu innych małych przystani, baz wielorybników i osad drwali zachodniego wybrzeża Kanady. Zadecydowało o tym dogodne położenie portu i poprowadzenie linii kolejowej. Również współcześnie port jest najważniejszym miejscem i sercem całej aglomeracji. Choć miasto nie jest stolicą Kolumbii Brytyjskiej, tu swoje siedziby ma wiele biur administracji prowincji.
