Van Halen

They enjoyed immediate popularity and influence from the release of their debut album, Van Halen in 1978, which lasted until the band's lineup destabilized in the late 1990s. As of 2007 Van Halen has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and earning the band the Guinness Book of World Records title for the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is #19 on the list of top selling artists of all time (having sold more than 56 million albums in the U.S.) and is one of only five rock groups that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the U.S. The band and its best known former members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007.

Van Halen est un groupe de hard rock américain fondé au milieu des années 1970. Le guitariste du groupe, Eddie Van Halen, est rapidement devenu célèbre pour ses prouesses techniques et sa sensibilité musicale. Il a surtout inspiré un nouveau courant de "guitar heroes" grâce à la popularisation de la technique du "tapping". Leur premier chanteur David Lee Roth s'est imposé comme un véritable show man.

I Van Halen, in origine Mammoths, sono un noto gruppo hard & heavy statunitense originario di Pasadena, California, che prende il nome dal chitarrista Eddie van Halen e da suo fratello, il batterista Alex van Halen. L'influenza di questa band è stata piuttosto vasta nel rock duro ed ha contribuito all'origine di molti gruppi heavy metal. La tecnica di Eddie van Halen infatti ispirò molti chitarristi all'interno della corrente musicale heavy metal.
