Valhalla

Valhalla (Old Norse Valhöll, "Hall of the slain") is Odin's hall in Norse mythology, located in Gladsheim and is the home for those slain gloriously in battle (known as Einherjar) who are welcomed by Bragi and escorted to Valhalla by the valkyries. The main gate of Valhalla is called Valgrind, which is described in Grímnismál as a "sacred gate", behind which are the "holy doors" and "there are few who can tell the manner by which it is locked". The hall itself has 540 doors, so wide that 800 warriors could walk through side-by-side. It is said that there is room enough for all those chosen. Here, every day, the slain warriors who will assist Odin in Ragnarök, the gods' final conflict with the giants, arm themselves for battle and ride forth by the thousands to engage in combat on the plains of Asgard. Those who die in the fighting will be brought back to life. At night, they return to Valhalla to feast on the boar Sæhrímnir and drink intoxicating drink. Those who do not get to Valhalla go to the home of the dead (Hel), a place beneath the underworld (Niflheim), or one of various other places. Those who are lost at sea, for example, are taken to Ægir's hall at the bottom of the sea. In addition to the valkyries and the Einherjar, a rooster named Gullinkambi lives there.

Dans la mythologie nordique, la Valhöll (ou Walhalla, Valhalla, Valhalle), demeure-des-occis, est le lieu où les guerriers valeureux sont amenés. C'est sur les champs de bataille que des vierges guerrières(pour les celts) ou des Valkyries(pour les germains), cherchent et récupèrent les hommes les plus braves et les plus valeureux afin de les ramener dans Ásgard, où Odin les attend pour les préparer à la bataille finale, le Ragnarök.

Walhall (altnord.: „Halle der Gefallenen“), häufig auch als Walhalla bezeichnet und evtl. verknüpft oder identisch mit dem Götterpalast Valaskjalf, ist in der nordischen Mythologie der Ruheort der in einer Schlacht gefallenen Kämpfer, die sich als tapfer gezeigt hatten, die sogenannten Einherjer.

Walhalla, Valhalla (staronord. Valhöll – komnata, pałac poległych) – w mitologii nordyckiej miejsce przebywania poległych w chwale wojowników (tzw. Einherjerów), których z pola bitwy zabierały walkirie, a na progu Walhalli witał ich Bragi. Walhalla znajduje się w Asgardzie, a dokładniej w Gladsheim i należy do głównego boga Germanów, Odyna. Pałac o 540 bramach, przez które jednocześnie mogło przejść 800 wojowników idących ramię w ramię. Najstarszą bramą jest wiecznie otwarta Walgind. Na zachód od niej wisi przybity do ściany wilk, którego dziobie orzeł. Ściany pałacu Odyna pokryte są złotymi włóczniami, a sufit złotymi tarczami. Ławy obłożone są zbrojami wojowników, którymi Walhalla jest wypełniona. W Walhalli całymi dniami toczą się nieustające bitwy, a wieczorem wszyscy ucztują. Przyrządzany jest dzik Sahrimnir w kotle Eldhirmnir przez kucharza o imieniu Andhrimnir. Rogi z miodem podają walkirie, pije się również mleko kozy Heidrun. Wojownicy piją, jedzą i ćwiczą, aby w chwili końca świata stoczyć ostateczną bitwę ze złem u boku Thora. Walhalla to kraina wiecznego szczęścia.
