Valencia ( [ba'lenθja]; Valencian: València [va'ɫɛnsia]) is the capital of the Spanish autonomous community of Valencia and its province. It is the third largest city in Spain and the 15st largest city of the European Union. It forms part of an industrial area on the Costa del Azahar.The estimated population of the city of Valencia proper was 807,396 as of 2006 estimates. Population of the urban area was 1,212,000 as of 2000 estimates. Population of the metropolitan area (urban area plus satellite towns) was 1,907,396 as of 2006 estimates. As of 2007, the mayor of Valencia is Rita Barberá Nolla.

Als Valencianisch (Eigenbezeichnung valencià; spanisch valenciano) wird die in der Autonomen Region Valencia (Spanien) gesprochene Varietät der katalanischen Sprache bezeichnet. Aus politischen Gründen wird häufig die Ansicht vertreten, dass Valencianisch als eigenständige Sprache anzusehen ist. Dies wird von der Sprachwissenschaft jedoch nahezu einhellig abgelehnt. Seit 1982 ist das Valencianische neben dem Spanischen Amtssprache der Region.

Język walencki (llengua valenciana, el valencià) – określenie języka katalońskiego używane we Wspólnocie Walenckiej zgodnie ze statutem autonomii.Od dawna istnieje spór o charakterze zarówno naukowym, jak i politycznym, na temat odrębności walenckiego. W roku 2005 Walencka Akademia Języka (Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua) przychyliła się do zdania dużej większości językoznawców i w oficjalnej wykładni uznała, że „własny i historyczny język Walencjan, z filologicznego punktu widzenia, jest tym samym, który dzielą ze sobą wspólnoty autonomiczne Katalonii […] i Balearów oraz Księstwo Andory”.

Valencia (in valenciano València, IPA , in castigliano Valencia , in italiano, anche se non molto usato o diffuso, Valenza o Valenzia) è la terza città della Spagna per numero di abitanti, dopo Madrid e Barcellona. È il capoluogo della Comunità Valenciana o Paese Valenciano, ed è un importante porto sul Mar Mediterraneo. La popolazione della città è di 807.396 abitanti (2006); l'area metropolitana ha 1.664.560 abitanti in 1.407 km², con una densità di 1.182 ab./km².
