VIOL

The viol (also called viola da gamba) is any one of a family of bowed, fretted stringed musical instruments developed in the 1400s and used primarily in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The family is related to and descends primarily from the Spanish vihuela (a guitar-like plucked string instrument). Some degree of developmental influence, if only in playing posture, is credited to the Moorish Rebab as well.

La viole de gambe (qui veut dire la « viole de jambe ») ou viole est un instrument de musique à cordes et à frettes joué à l'aide d'un archet. Le terme italien viola da gamba le distingue de la viola da braccio par la différence de la tenue de l'instrument (la basse de viole est tenue entre les jambes, d'où son nom, et l'archet est également tenu de façon différente).

Das Amt Viöl ist ein Zusammenschluss von 13 Gemeinden im Kreis Nordfriesland in Schleswig-Holstein (Deutschland). Es hat seinen Sitz in der gleichnamigen Gemeinde Viöl. Bei seiner Bildung trug das Amt zunächst den Namen „Amt Obere Arlau“.

Viola da gamba (zu ital. viola „Geige“ und gamba „Bein“, im Deutschen auch verkürzt Gambe oder Kniegeige genannt) ist eine Sammelbezeichnung für eine Familie historischer Streichinstrumente. Sie entstand zur selben Zeit wie die Violinenfamilie. Die Bezeichnung da gamba leitet sich von der Spielhaltung ab. Die Instrumente sämtlicher Stimmlagen – Diskant-, Alt-/Tenor- und Bassgambe bzw. Violone – werden im Gegensatz zu den viole da braccio, d. h. „Armgeigen“, zwischen den Beinen gehalten bzw. die kleineren Typen mit dem  Korpus auf den Schoß gestellt, wobei der Hals nach oben ragt.

Viola da gamba to chordofon smyczkowy, pierwowzór dzisiejszej wiolonczeli. Nie jest ona jednak bezpośrednim przodkiem dzisiejszych instrumentów, ale podobieństwa łączące oba instrumenty są znaczne. Pierwsze viole pojawiły się już pod koniec XV wieku. Cieszyły się dużą popularnością w epoce renesansu i baroku, często były wykorzystywane zarówno jako instrument orkiestrowy, jak i solowy. W początkowym stadium instrument ten występował w wielu różnych odmianach. Dopiero w XVI wieku wyklarował się dosyć jednolity wygląd tych instrumentów, choć zawsze występowały odmiany violi da gamba w różnych strojach.
