For the CNC programming language, see G-code. VCR Plus+, G-Code, VideoPlus+ and ShowView are different names for essentially the same system for programming video recorders. These names are all registered trademarks of Gemstar-TV Guide International, who developed these algorithms for use in integrated endecs.

The videocassette recorder (or VCR, more commonly known in the UK and Ireland as the video recorder), is a type of video tape recorder that uses removable videotape cassettes containing magnetic tape to record audio and video from a television broadcast so it can be played back later. Most VCRs have their own tuner (for direct TV reception) and a programmable timer (for unattended recording of a certain channel at a particular time).

Videorekorder (abgek. VCR von englisch Video Cassette Recorder) sind Geräte zur Aufzeichnung und Wiedergabe von Audio- und Videosignalen (i. d. R. Fernsehbildern). Anfangs waren damit stets Geräte mit magnetisierbaren Bändern (MAZ, Videokassetten) gemeint, inzwischen wird die Abkürzung im Deutschen (anders als im Englischen) auch zunehmend auf Geräte, die Datenscheiben (DVD) oder Festplatten (HDD) nutzen, angewandt.

Magnetowid – urządzenie elektroniczne służące do zapisu i odtwarzania obrazu (wizji) i dźwięku (fonii) na specjalnych kasetach. Ze względu na budowę rozróżnia się urządzenia studyjne oraz urządzenia domowego użytku. Magnetowidy, jako urządzenia domowego użytku wyposażone są w odbiornik sygnału telewizyjnego (ang. tuner). Stanowi to rozwinięcie wcześniejszego rozwiązania jakim był odtwarzacz wideo oraz urządzenia przejściowego – odtwarzacza wideo z funkcją nagrywania. Integracja z tunerem skutkowała wprowadzeniem kolejnej funkcji: programator (ang. timer), pozwalającej użytkownikowi automatycznie rejestrować programy nadawane przez telewizję; urządzenia bez tunera telewizyjnego nazywane są potocznie "odtwarzaczami" (czasem "z możliwością nagrywania"). Zasada ta nie dotyczyła urządzeń studyjnych, gdzie nie wymagany był zintegrowany odbiornik sygnału telewizyjnego.
