VAN

A van is a kind of vehicle used for transporting goods or groups of people. It is usually a rather box-shaped vehicle on four wheels, about the same width and length as a large automobile, but taller and usually higher off the ground, also referred to as a Light Commercial Vehicle or LCV. However, in North America, the term may be used to refer to any truck with a rigid cargo body fixed to the cab, even up to large sizes.

Ein Van ist im deutschen Sprachgebrauch ein Fahrzeug mit sieben, in seltenen Fällen auch bis zu neun Sitzen (mit durchgehender Sitzbank vorne), das vorwiegend von Familien genutzt wird. Im weiteren Sinne werden damit alle Arten von PKW mit erhöhter Karosserie, Hochdachkombis und Kleinbusse bezeichnet.

Van – typ nadwozia wielozadaniowego samochodu osobowego. Jest to nadwozie jednobryłowe. Samochody te mają sześć, siedem lub osiem siedzeń w trzech rzędach. Polska nazwa pochodzi od angielskiego słowa van, oznaczającego samochód dostawczy typu furgon, natomiast w Wielkiej Brytanii ten typ nadwozia określany jest jako MPV lub minivan. Jako pierwsza samochód typu van wyprodukowała amerykańska korporacja samochodowa Dodge.
