Uruguay , officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, sometimes the Eastern Republic of Uruguay; ( ) is a country in the southeastern part of South America. It is home to 3.3 million people, of whom 1.8 million live in the capital Montevideo and its metropolitan area. An estimated 88% of the population are of European ancestry.

Uruguay (spanisch ; amtlich República Oriental del Uruguay , deutsch: Republik Östlich des Uruguay) ist ein Staat in Südamerika. Uruguay grenzt im Norden an Brasilien, im Osten an den Atlantischen Ozean, im Süden an den Rio de la Plata, im Westen (durch den Río Uruguay getrennt) an Argentinien und ist der kleinste spanischsprachige Staat in Südamerika.

L’Uruguay est un pays d’Amérique du Sud situé au sud du Brésil et à l’est de l’Argentine, dont il est séparé par le fleuve Uruguay qui lui a donné son nom (le nom officiel est República Oriental del Uruguay, c’est-à-dire « République orientale de l’Uruguay»). Sa capitale est Montevideo.

Urugwaj (Uruguay, Wschodnia Republika Urugwaju – República Oriental del Uruguay) – państwo w Ameryce Południowej, nad Atlantykiem, graniczące z Argentyną od zachodu i Brazylią od północy. Stolicą państwa jest Montevideo, port atlantycki u ujścia La Platy. Po drugiej stronie tego estuarium leży stolica Argentyny – Buenos Aires. Dawniej Urugwaj stanowił część Wicekrólestwa La Platy i nosił nazwę Banda Oriental (Brzeg Wschodni).
