Urartian

Urartian (also called Chaldean, or Vannic) is the conventional name for the language spoken by the inhabitants of the ancient kingdom of Urartu in the region of Lake Van in modern-day Turkey in the highlands of Armenia. Urartian was an agglutinative language, which belongs to neither the Semitic nor the Indo-European families but to the Hurro-Urartian family. It survives in many inscriptions found in the area of the Urartu kingdom, written in the Assyrian cuneiform script. The Urartians also possessed a native hieroglyphic script, but in later Urartu this script was restricted to use in accounting and religion.

Урартский язык (халдский, биайнский) — язык государства Урарту (охватывало территорию с запада на восток — от озера Ван до озера Урмия, с севера на юг — от Араратской долины до северного Ирака до VI века до н. э.). Принадлежит к хуррито-урартской семье языков, родственной восточнокавказским. Некоторые учёные склонны считать, что данный язык был лишь письменным, а разговорным был протоармянский .

Urarteiska (även kallat kaldiska) talades under första årtusendet f.Kr. av urarteerna i området för nuvarande östra Turkiet och Armenien. Beteckningen "urarteiska" kommer från den assyriska benämningen på området "Urartu". Urarteerna själva betecknade sitt område Biai-nili. Deras egen beteckning för sitt språk är inte känd.
