United States Coast Guard

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is at all times a branch of the U.S. military, a maritime law enforcement agency, and a federal regulatory body. The Coast Guard has eleven statutory missions: Migrant Interdiction, Defense Readiness, Drug Interdiction, Ports, Waterways and Coastal Security, Other Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Aids to Navigation, Marine Safety, Living Marine Resources, Marine Environmental Protection, and Ice Operations. As one of the seven uniformed services of the United States, and the smallest armed service of the United States, its stated mission is to protect the public, the environment, and the United States economic and security interests in any maritime region in which those interests may be at risk, including international waters and America's coasts, ports, and inland waterways.

Straż Wybrzeża Stanów Zjednoczonych (ang. United States Coast Guard, USCG) - najmniejszy z rodzajów amerykańskich sił zbrojnych. Jej zadaniem jest szeroko pojęta ochrona wybrzeży Stanów Zjednoczonych. Łączy funkcje wojskowe i cywilne. Służy w niej około 40 tys. ludzi. Straż Wybrzeża podlega Departamentowi Bezpieczeństwa Krajowego, a nie Departamentowi Obrony, tak jak pozostałe rodzaje sił zbrojnych.

L' United States Coast Guard abbreviato USCG (in italiano Guardia Costiera degli Stati Uniti) è una forza armata statunitense. I compiti di istituto riguardano la polizia marittima, l'assistenza ai naviganti, la ricerca e soccorso in mare (SAR), la difesa nazionale e la lotta all'inquinamento. È uno dei sette corpi militari degli Stati Uniti. Con 39.000 uomini e donne in servizio attivo, 8.100 nella riserva, 7.000 impiegati civili e 35.000 ausiliari ( dati gennaio 2005) l'United States Coast Guard è la quinta e la più piccola tra le forze armate degli USA. A differenza delle altre forze armate americane che dipendono dal Dipartimento della Difesa (DoD), la Guardia Costiera americana è stata posta alle dipendenze del Dipartimento della Sicurezza Interna (Department of Homeland Security - DHS).
