United States Cabinet

The United States Cabinet (usually simplified as "the Cabinet") is composed of the most senior appointed officers of the executive branch of the federal government of the United States, and its existence dates back to the first American President (George Washington), who appointed a Cabinet of four people (Secretary of State, Thomas Jefferson; Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton; Secretary of War, Henry Knox; and Attorney General, Edmund Randolph) to advise and assist him in his duties. Cabinet officers are nominated by the President and then presented to the United States Senate for confirmation or rejection by a simple majority. If approved, they are sworn in, receive the title "Secretary," (except the Attorney General) and begin their duties.

Das Kabinett der Vereinigten Staaten ist ein Teil der Exekutive in der Bundesregierung und setzt sich aus dem Präsidenten, dem Vizepräsidenten, den 15 Bundesministern und einigen weiteren ranghohen Bundesbeamten zusammen. Obwohl es sich zu einem der einflussreichsten Organe der Bundesregierung entwickelt hat, ist der Begriff „Kabinett“ selbst nicht in der Verfassung enthalten.

Zgodnie z postanowieniami Konstytucji Stanów Zjednoczonych wszelka władza wykonawcza przysługuje Prezydentowi, który jest ogólnie rzecz ujmując głową państwa oraz szefem rządu i całej administracji federalnej. Z kolei nazwa Rządu Federalnego (Federal Government) nie odnosi się do czegoś w rodzaju "rady ministrów", tylko całego systemu władzy państwowej i ustroju (republika federalna złożona ze stanów). Nie składa się więc tylko z władzy wykonawczej, ale i ustawodawczej i sądowniczej.
