United Nations Trust Territory

United Nations Trust Territories were the successors of the remaining League of Nations mandates and came into being when the League of Nations ceased to exist in 1946. All of the trust territories were administered through the UN Trusteeship Council. The one territory not turned over was South West Africa, which South Africa insisted remained under the League of Nations Mandate, and which eventually gained independence in 1990 as Namibia. The main objection was that the trust territory guidelines required that the lands be prepared for independence and majority rule.

Treuhandgebiete waren frühere Mandatsgebiete des Völkerbundes, die von den Vereinten Nationen (UN) Treuhandmächten zur treuhänderischen Verwaltung übergeben wurden.Siehe dazu Mandat (Völkerrecht).Außer der Sicherung des Weltfriedens sollte das Treuhandsystem laut der Charta der Vereinten Nationen (Kapitel XII) vor allem der Förderung dieser meist wenig entwickelten Gebiete und ihrer schrittweisen Entwicklung bis zu ihrer Unabhängigkeit dienen. Dieser Prozess wurde von dem Treuhandrat der UN überwacht, einem ihrer sechs Organe, das sich aus den fünf ständigen Mitgliedern des Sicherheitsrates zusammensetzt. Der Treuhandrat wurde auf dem Weltgipfel im September 2005 aufgelöst, da er seine Arbeit bereits 1994 einstellte, als das letzte Treuhandgebiet (Palau) in die Unabhängigkeit entlassen wurde.

Terytorium powiernicze ONZ - terytorium niesamodzielne zarządzane przez państwo lub kilka państw, zgodnie z systemem powierniczym ONZ - na podstawie Karty Narodów Zjednoczonych oraz umów powierniczych. Nadzór nad powiernictwem sprawowało Zgromadzenie Ogólne ONZ i Rada Powiernicza ONZ.System powierniczy ONZ zastąpił istniejący przed drugą wojną system mandatowy Ligi Narodów. Karta Narodów Zjednoczonych przewidywała, że systemowi powierniczemu podlegają następujące terytoria (początkowo 11):terytoria mandatowe, które nie uzyskały niepodległościobszary odłączone od państw nieprzyjacielskich po II wojnie światowejobszary oddane dobrowolnie pod powiernictwo (nie było takiego wypadku)

Os Protectorados das Nações Unidas ou “territórios sob tutela” (Trust Territories, em inglês), foram territórios administrados por diferentes países como protectorados, sob mandato do Conselho de Tutela das Nações Unidas. Estes territórios encontravam-se, quer sob a protecção daqueles estados por mandato da Liga das Nações (que deixou de existir em 1946, quando se formou a ONU), quer administrados por países que tinham sido derrotados na Segunda Guerra Mundial. O mandato requeria que aqueles territórios fossem preparados para a independência, sob um governo democrático.
