The Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) of the United States of America is the head of the Department of the Navy, a component organization (military department) within the Department of Defense. The position of Secretary of the Navy is filled by appointment of the Executive Branch and requires confirmation by a majority vote of the Senate.
