US Air Force

The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial warfare branch of the United States armed forces and one of the seven uniformed services. Previously part of the United States Army, the USAF was formed as a separate branch of the military on September 18, 1947.The USAF is the largest and most technologically advanced air force in the world, with about 6013 manned aircraft in service (4,282 USAF; 1,321 Air National Guard; and 410 Air Force Reserve); approximately 160 Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles, 2161 Air-Launched Cruise Missiles, and 580 Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles; and as of September 30, 2006, had 334,200 personnel on active duty, 120,369 in the Selected and Individual Ready Reserves, and 107,000 in the Air National Guard. An additional 10,675 personnel were in the Standby Reserve, and the Air Force employed 168,558 civilian personnel.

L’United States Air Force (US Air Force, USAF) est la branche aérienne des forces armées des États-Unis. Sa mission est la défense des États-Unis par le contrôle de l'air et de l'espace. Initialement connu comme l'United States Army Air Corps, le le National Security Act a eu comme effet de faire de l'USAF une branche distincte qui a repris les missions et effectifs auparavant confiés à U.S. Army Air Forces. Elle est la dernière branche de l'armée arméricaine à avoir été formée.

Die United States Air Force (USAF) sind die Luftstreitkräfte der Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Die Aufgabe der USAF ist die „Verteidigung der Vereinigten Staaten durch die Kontrolle und Ausnutzung von Luft und All“. Im Jahre 2006 waren der US Air Force 346.166 Soldaten unterstellt, darunter 71.691 Offiziere (20,7 %). Außerdem sind 145.620 Zivilangestellte bei der USAF beschäftigt. Die unmittelbaren Reserve umfasst noch weitere 78.426 Soldaten die dem  Air Force Reserve Command unterstellt ist, sowie die Air National Guard mit 106.000 Soldaten. Die US Air Force stellt heute rund ein Viertel der Gesamtstärke der US-Streitkräfte von ca. 1,43 Millionen Menschen.

L'USAF è nata come forza armata separata e indipendente dall'esercito il 18 settembre 1947 e attualmente rappresenta la più grande forza aerea del mondo con oltre 9.000 velivoli in servizio, basi sparse in tutto il mondo e circa 352.000 uomini e donne in servizio attivo.
