.uk is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the United Kingdom. Today it is the fifth most popular top-level domain worldwide (after .com, .de, .net and .cn), with over 6 million registrations [1].The use of .uk rather than .gb for the top-level domain is due to its pre-existing use in the (now obsolete) JANET Name Registration Scheme in which the order of address components were reversed. .uk was made available in DNS to simplify the translation to and from these addresses. There were plans for eventual transition to .gb to accord with correct usage, but this never occurred; the use of .uk is now entrenched as it is impossible to register a .gb domain.

Im Zweiten Weltkrieg stieg der Bedarf an Triebfahrzeugen, insbesondere Güterzuglokomotiven, enorm an. Um die Produktion der Einheits-Baureihen 44, 50 und 86 zu beschleunigen, wurden diese Baureihen ab 1941 in vereinfachter Form ausgeliefert und als sog. Übergangskriegslokomotiven (ÜK) bezeichnet. Charakteristisch für ÜK-Lokomotiven sind z.B. Scheibenräder auf den Laufachsen und fehlende vordere Seitenfenster in den Führerhäusern. Auch auf Vorwärmer, Speisepumpe, Frontschürzen, Windleitbleche und andere, zum Betrieb der Lokomotiven nicht unbedingt benötigte Bauteile wurde teilweise verzichtet.

Fu formato da una serie di Atti d'Unione che riunirono le seguenti nazioni costitutive: Inghilterra, Galles, Scozia e Irlanda del Nord. Gran parte dell'Irlanda si separò nel 1922 costituendo lo Stato Libero d'Irlanda (l'attuale Repubblica d'Irlanda), la parte restante è ancora sotto il Regno Unito e viene chiamata Irlanda del Nord.
