UCAID

Internet2 or UCAID (University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development) is a non-profit consortium which develops and deploys advanced network applications and technologies, for education and high-speed data transfer purposes. It is led by 212 universities [1]   and partners with 60 companies in areas from the networking (Cisco Systems, Nortel and others), publishing (Prous Science) and technology industries such as Comcast, Intel and Sun Microsystems. "Internet2" is a registered trademark [2].

Internet2 ou University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development, abrégé sous le sigle UCAID, est un consortium à but non lucratif conduit par plus de 200 universités des États-Unis et par des partenaires commerciaux issus du domaine des réseaux et de l'informatique, afin de développer les technologies permettant de faire atteindre de très hauts débits au réseau Internet.

Das Internet2 ist ein Projekt für ein schnelleres Internet, basierend auf einem Glasfaser-Backbone (sehr hohe Bandbreiten). Es wurde 1996 von der University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID) initialisiert. Ob die UCAID das von ihr entwickelte Netz als Internet2 bezeichnen darf, ist umstritten. (Der Begriff Internet2 sollte nicht mit dem Begriff Web 2.0 verwechselt werden, der seit ca. 2004 eine Evolutions-Stufe des World Wide Web, seiner Technik und seiner Nutzung bezeichnet.)

Zostało założone w październiku 1996 i zrzesza 207 uniwersytetów ze Stanów Zjednoczonych, agencji rządowych oraz partnerów ze świata przemysłu informatycznego, takich jak Comcast, Sun Microsystems i Cisco Systems.
