The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a scientific agency of the United States Department of Commerce focused on the conditions of the oceans and the atmosphere. NOAA warns of dangerous weather, charts seas and skies, guides the use and protection of ocean and coastal resources, and conducts research to improve understanding and stewardship of the environment. In addition to its civilian employees, NOAA research and operations are supported by 300 uniformed service members who make up the NOAA Corps. The Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere at the Department of Commerce, retired Navy Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher, serves as the administrator for NOAA.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – amerykańska Narodowa Agencja Oceanów i Atmosfery, jest to agencja rządowa zajmująca się prognozą pogody, ostrzeżeniami sztormowymi, ostrzeżeniami przed innymi ekstremalnymi zjawiskami pogodowymi (m.in. rekonesansem cyklonów tropikalnych). Pomimo, że jest nakierowana na działalność operacyjną (modele numeryczne, prognoza pogody, prognoza falowania, zbieranie danych) to część działalności zajmują badania naukowe. NOAA ma spektakularne sukcesy w opracowaniu reanalizy danych meteorologicznych używanych w badaniach klimatu. Ma bogatą historię w rozwoju globalnych i regionalnych numerycznych prognoz pogody i rozwoju satelitarnych technik w meteorologii, hydrologii i oceanografii.

De National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is in de Verenigde Staten de instantie die zich bezighoud met meteorologie en oceanografie.De organisatie is als zodanig te vergelijken met de Nederlandse KNMI en de Belgische KMI. De NOAA beschikt echter over veel meer middelen, en heeft bijvoorbeeld haar eigen netwerk van weersatellieten.De NOAA is op 3 oktober 1970 opgericht, nadat de Amerikaanse president Richard Nixon had voorgesteld een nieuwe organisatie in het leven te roepen voor een betere bescherming van bezittingen tegen natuurgeweld, voor een beter begrip van het milieu, en voor de exploratie en ontwikkeling van natuurlijke hulpbronnen op zee.
