Tyre (Lebanon)

Tyre (Arabic  , Phoenician , Hebrew  Tzor, Tiberian Hebrew  , Akkadian , Greek  Týros) is a city in the South Governorate of Lebanon. With 117,100 inhabitants, Tyre juts out from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea and it is located about 80 km (50 mi) south of Beirut. The name of the city means "rock" . The adjective for Tyre is Tyrian, and the inhabitants are Tyrians.

Týr, Tyr ou encore Tiu est le plus vieux des Ases, qui au tout début était appelé Tuisto. Si Tyr est devenu un dieu guerrier que l'on a assimilé au Mars romain, c'est initialement un dieu souverain qui incarne en particulier l'aspect juridique de la souveraineté (Dumézil), mais plus anciennement encore c'est le dieu du ciel diurne comme l'indique son nom germanique *teiwaz, indo-européen *deywos (*deyw-:"ciel du jour"). Son sacrifice est typique d'un dieu dont le rôle principal est d'être le garant des serments.

Tyr (obecny Sur) to miasto w południowym Libanie na wybrzeżu Morza Śródziemnego. Jego nazwa znaczy "skała". W języku fenickim , w akadyjskim , po hebrajsku צור , po grecku  Týros, po arabsku  صور (as)-. Najstarsze znane ślady osadnictwa pochodzą z około 1500 roku p.n.e., ale przyjmuje się za Herodotem, że miasto zostało założone około roku 2700 p.n.e.Tyr był głównym ośrodkiem kultu Baala-Melkarta. Słynął też z produkcji rzadkiego rodzaju purpury zwanej tyryjską. Kolor ten w wielu kulturach starożytnych był zastrzeżony dla rodzin królewskich albo co najmniej szlacheckich.

Den antika staden Tyros (akkadiska Ṣurru, arabiska الصور, al-Sūr, egyptiska Ṣar, Ṣara, fenikiska Sur, grekiska Τύρος, Týros, hebreiska צר, Ṣōr; latin Tyrus) även Tyr, Sor eller Sur är en arkeologisk plats i södra Libanon vid Medelhavskusten cirka 37 kilometer norr om Acre och 32 kilometer söder om Sidon. Moderna orten Sour har en befolkning på cirka 40.000 invånare (1993).
