Turner Prize

The Turner Prize is an annual prize presented to a British visual artist under 50, named after the painter J.M.W. Turner. It is organized by the Tate Gallery, and since its beginnings in 1984 it has become the United Kingdom's most publicised art award. It has become associated with conceptual art, although it represents all media and painters have also won the prize.

Le prix Turner (Turner Prize) est une récompense annuelle décernée à un artiste contemporain britannique de moins de 50 ans. Il est organisé par la Tate Britain à Londres, depuis 1984. En 2004, sa dotation était de 40 000 livres sterling. Bien qu'associé à l'art conceptuel, le prix est décerné aux artistes utilisant les nouveaux médias, tels que l'art vidéo, l'installation et la sculpture non conventionnelle, mais aussi aux artistes peintres.

Der Turner Prize ist ein nach dem Maler J. M. W. Turner benannter britischer Kunstpreis, der alljährlich an einen Künstler, der jünger als 50 ist, verliehen wird. Der Preis wurde erstmals 1984 verliehen und ist mit £40.000 (£25.000 für den Gewinner und jeweils £5.000 für die anderen nominierten Künstler, Stand: 2004) dotiert. Die Preisvergabe wird von der Londoner  Tate Gallery organisiert; der Preis gilt mittlerweile als der bedeutendste Kunstpreis in Großbritannien.
