Turin (, pronounced ; Piedmontese: Turin, pronounced ; ) is a city and major business and cultural centre in northern Italy, capital of the Piedmont region, located mainly on the left bank of the Po River and surrounded by the Alpine arch. The population of the city proper is 909,193 (November 2008) while the population of the urban area is estimated by Eurostat to be 1.7 million inhabitants. The Turin metropolitan area is estimated by the OECD to have a population of 2.2 million.

Túrin Turambar (pronounced ) is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium. "Turambar and the Foalókë", begun in 1917, is the first appearance of Túrin in the legendarium. J.R.R. Tolkien consciously based the lay on the medieval story of Kullervo in the Finnish mythological poem Kalevala, saying that it was "an attempt to reorganize...the tale of Kullervo the hapless, into a form of my own". Also called "The Tale of Grief", "Narn i Chîn Húrin", commonly called "The Narn", it tells of the tragic fates of the children of Húrin, namely his son Túrin (Turambar) and his daughter Nienor. Excerpts of the story were published before, in The Silmarillion (prose), Unfinished Tales (prose), The Book of Lost Tales Part II (prose), The Lays of Beleriand (verse in alliterative long-lines) and most recently in 1994 in The War of the Jewels (prose), the latter three part of The History of Middle-earth series.

Turyn (wł. Torino) - miasto w północno-zachodnich Włoszech, nad rzeką Pad, stolica Piemontu. Patronem miasta jest św. Jan Chrzciciel (święto obchodzone 24 czerwca).

Túrin Turambar (463-498) – postać z fikcyjnego Śródziemia stworzonego przez J. R. R. Tolkiena. Był Adanem. Mimo swoich sukcesów w walce ze złem zabił wielu niewinnych ludzi, co powoduje, że czasami uznaje się go za antybohatera. Syn Húrina i Morweny, władca Dor-lóminu. Znany także pod imionami Neithan, Gorthol, Agarwaen syn Úmartha, Thurin, Adanedhel, Mormegil i Turambar. Przybierał on różne imiona, aby uciec przed klątwą Morgotha. Był synem Húrina. Urodził się w Dor-lóminie, ale wychował w Doriath, pod opieką króla Thingola. Tam też poznał swojego najlepszego przyjaciela Belega. Po jakimś czasie otrzymał od Thingola spuściznę swojego rodu, Smoczy Hełm. Uciekł jednak z Doriathu, aby nie zostać posądzonym o zabicie jednego z elfów, Saerosa.
