Tsunami

A tsunami (IPA: ) is a series of waves created when a body of water, such as an ocean, is rapidly displaced. Earthquakes, mass movements above or below water, volcanic eruptions and other underwater explosions, landslides, large meteorite impacts comet impacts and testing with nuclear weapons at sea all have the potential to generate a tsunami. The effects of a tsunami can range from unnoticeable to devastating. The Latin derivative of the word for the smaller waves experienced across the Italian coast was Fillius Sum Sunamus which means, son of tsunamis, inspired by the Japanese word similar to "tsunami" after relations with the shogun of Japan. The term tsunami comes from the Japanese words (津波、つなみ) meaning harbor ("tsu", ) and wave ("nami", ). [a. Jap. tsunami, tunami, f. tsu harbour + nami waves. - Oxford English Dictionary]. For the plural, one can either follow ordinary English practice and add an s, or use an invariable plural as in Japanese. The term was created by fishermen who returned to port to find the area surrounding their harbor devastated, although they had not been aware of any wave in the open water. Tsunamis are common throughout Japanese history; approximately 195 events in Japan have been recorded.

Un tsunami ( tsu, « port » et 波 nami, « vague ») est une onde provoquée par un mouvement rapide d'un grand volume d'eau (océan ou mer). Ce mouvement est en général dû à un séisme, une éruption volcanique sous-marine de type explosif ou bien un glissement de terrain sous-marin de grande ampleur. Un impact météoritique peut aussi en être la cause, de même qu'une explosion atomique sous-marine. Ainsi, contrairement aux vagues, un tsunami n'est pas créé par le vent.

Ein Tsunami (jap. 津波, Hafenwelle; aus 津 tsu, Hafen, und 波 nami, Welle) ist eine sich schnell fortpflanzende Meereswoge, die überwiegend durch Erdbeben auf dem Meeresgrund (oft auch als „Seebeben“ bezeichnet) ausgelöst wird.Tsunamis werden oft als Flutwellen bezeichnet; ihre Entstehung hat jedoch nichts mit den tageszeitlichen Wechseln zwischen Ebbe und Flut (Gezeiten) zu tun; ebenso wenig werden Tsunamis durch Wind verursacht. Tsunamis sind nicht mit so genannten Riesen- oder Monsterwellen zu verwechseln.Auf offenem Meer werden Tsunamis kaum bemerkt, in Ufernähe jedoch können starke Tsunamis weiträumige katastrophale Schäden verursachen und ganze Küstenstriche verwüsten. Solche Erscheinungen zählen zu den Naturkatastrophen.

Tsunami (jap. 津波 - tsunami - fala portowa (tsu - port, nami - fala)) - fala oceaniczna, wywołana podwodnym trzęsieniem ziemi, wybuchem wulkanu bądź osuwiskiem ziemi (lub dzieleniem się lodowców), rzadko w wyniku upadku meteorytu. Fale rozchodzą się pierścieniowo od miejsca jej wzbudzenia. Na pełnym morzu przejście fali tsunami, poruszającej się z wielką prędkością (do 900 km/h), może być nawet niezauważone, jako że długość tych fal dochodzi do kilkuset kilometrów, ale ich wysokość nie przekracza kilkudziesięciu centymetrów. Dopiero w strefie brzegowej może ona osiągnąć wysokość kilkudziesięciu metrów niszcząc nadbrzeżne miejscowości. Najczęściej występuje w basenie Oceanu Spokojnego. Może osiągać brzeg jako łamiąca się fala, ściana wody lub podobnym do przypływu zalaniem.

Uno tsunami (dal giapponese 津波 che significa onda del porto, il termine onda di marea è generalmente sinonimo, ma non nell'utilizzo scientifico, in quanto gli tsunami non sono legati alla marea) è una serie di onde che hanno origine da un terremoto, terremoto sottomarino, attività vulcanica, frane, impatti meteoritici nel mare o vicino ad esso.
