Tropics

The tropics is a region of the Earth surrounding the Equator. It is limited in latitude by the Tropic of Cancer in the northern hemisphere at approximately N and the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern hemisphere at S; these latitudes correspond to the axial tilt of the Earth. The tropics are also referred to as the tropical zone and the torrid zone (see geographical zone). The tropics include all the areas on the Earth where the Sun reaches a point directly overhead at least once during the solar year. About 40 percent of the world's human population lives within the tropical zone (by 2008 statistics), and by 2060, 60% of the human population will be in the tropics, owing to high birth rates and migration.

Tropen

Die Tropen (v. gr.: tropai heliou Sonnenwendegebiete) gehören zu den Klimazonen der Erde. Sie sind:

strahlungsklimatisch betrachtet die Gebiete, die durch die beiden Wendekreise (23,5° nördliche und südliche Breite) begrenzt werden und in denen die Sonne mindestens einmal im Jahr im Zenit steht,
im System der atmosphärischen Zirkulation der Bereich zwischen den beiden subtropisch-randtropischen Hochdruckgürteln der Nord- und Südhalbkugel der Erde,
der Bereich beiderseits des Äquators, der durch höhere tageszeitliche und geringere jahreszeitliche Temperaturschwankungen (25 °C Jahresmittel) geprägt ist, da sich durch die ganzjährig hohe Einstrahlung keine thermischen Jahreszeiten bilden können,
der Bereich, in dem die jährlichen Tageslängen nur gering zwischen 10,5 und 13,5 Stunden schwanken.

Tropique

Les tropiques sont deux lignes parallèles à l'équateur : le tropique du Cancer, à 23° 26' de latitude Nord ; et le tropique du Capricorne à 23° 26' de latitude Sud. Les noms de Cancer et Capricorne ont été attribués selon la position du Soleil dans le zodiaque astrologique. On désigne aussi sous le nom de tropiques les régions du monde situées près de ces lignes (habiter sous les tropiques), en particulier les zones littorales et les îles de ces régions. L'emplacement exact des tropiques varie avec l'inclinaison de la terre sur son orbite (cf. ci-dessous).

Strefa miedzyzwrotnikowa

Strefa międzyzwrotnikowa (strefa gorąca, tropikalna, tropiki) – jedna ze stref oświetlenia kuli ziemskiej, obejmująca obszar położony między zwrotnikami Raka (23°27′N) i Koziorożca (23°27′S). Strefa ta otrzymuje najwięcej promieniowania słonecznego, a w związku z tym panuje w niej wysoka temperatura powietrza. W ciągu roku w każdym miejscu tej strefy Słońce dwa razy znajduje się w zenicie - z wyjątkiem zwrotników, gdzie zenitalne górowanie Słońca zachodzi tylko raz. Poza tą strefą Słońce nigdy nie góruje w zenicie.
