Trieste (; ; , ) is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy. It is situated towards the end of a narrow strip of land lying between the Adriatic Sea and Italy's border with Slovenia, which lies almost immediately south and east of the city. Trieste is located at the head of the Gulf of Trieste and throughout history it has been influenced by its location at the crossroads of Germanic, Latin and Slavic cultures. In 2009, it had a population of about 205,000 and it is the capital of the autonomous region Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Trieste province.

Die Trieste war ein von Auguste Piccard konstruierter Bathyskaph, ein U-Boot, das speziell für die Tiefseeforschung gebaut wurde. Erste Pläne für dieses weitere Unterwasserfahrzeug entwickelte Piccard im Jahr 1952, es wurde in Italien hergestellt und am 1. August 1953 vom Stapel gelassen. Dieses Fahrzeug war anfangs für Tauchtiefen bis zu 20.000 Fuß (= 6.096 Meter) konzipiert.

Triest (italienisch Trieste, slowenisch/kroatisch Trst) ist eine norditalienische Hafen- und Großstadt mit Einwohnern (Stand ) an der Adria direkt an der Grenze zu Slowenien. Es ist Hauptstadt der autonomen Region Friaul-Julisch Venetien und der Provinz Triest.

Trieste (slovène Trst, anciennement Tergeste en latin), est une ville d'Italie, située sur la mer Adriatique à l'extrême est de la plaine du Pô et à proximité de la frontière slovène. Elle est le chef-lieu de la région de Frioul-Vénétie julienne, et de la Province de Trieste. Elle compte 209 000 habitants (2005), les Triestins. Les ressources de la ville sont avant tout dues au port international, rival de celui de Venise, ainsi qu'aux activités liées : chantiers navals, sidérurgie, raffineries de pétrole.
