Traditional Chinese characters (; Pinyin: ) refers to Chinese characters in any character set which does not contain newly created characters or character substitutions performed after 1946. It most commonly refers to characters in the standardized character sets of Taiwan, of Hong Kong, or in the Kangxi Dictionary. The modern shapes of traditional Chinese characters first appeared with the emergence of the clerical script during the Han Dynasty, and have been more or less stable since the 5th century (during the Southern and Northern Dynasties.) The retronym "traditional Chinese" is used to contrast traditional characters with Simplified Chinese characters, a standardized character set introduced by the government of the People's Republic of China on Mainland China in the 1950s. Traditional Chinese characters are currently used in Taiwan (Republic of China), Hong Kong, Macau and in Guangzhou, although the number of printed materials in simplified characters is growing in Australia, USA and Canada, targeting or created by new arrivals from mainland China. A large number of overseas Chinese online newspapers allow users to switch between both sets. In contrast, simplified Chinese characters are used in mainland China, Singapore and Malaysia in official publications. The debate on traditional and simplified Chinese characters has been a long-running issue among Chinese communities.

Langzeichen werden auf Deutsch traditionelle, nicht-vereinfachte chinesische Schriftzeichen genannt, wie sie bis heute in Taiwan, in der Sonderverwaltungszone Hongkong und von vielen Überseechinesen verwendet werden. Im ISO 15924-Code tragen sie die Bezeichnung Hant, im ISO 639-Code entspricht das den Sprachen zh-TW oder zh-HK, sowie einigen anderen.

Les caractères chinois traditionnels ou sinogrammes traditionnels sont un des deux ensembles de caractères standards du chinois écrit contemporain. Apparus durant la dynastie Han (206 avant JC - 220) et utilisés depuis le durant les dynasties du Nord et du Sud, ils sont appelés traditionnels par opposition à l'autre forme - les sinogrammes simplifiés, standardisés par le gouvernement de la République populaire de Chine (Chine continentale) au début des années 1950. Les sinogrammes traditionnels sont aujourd'hui utilisés à Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan et certaines communautés chinoises expatriées, particulièrement celles originaires des pays précédemment cités ou qui émigrèrent avant la large adoption des caractères simplifiés dans la République Populaire de Chine. Les caractères simplifiés sont pour leur part utilisés en Chine continentale, à Singapour et dans certains communautés chinoises expatriées.

Traditionella kinesiska tecken är en beteckning på en typ av kinesiska tecken. De kinesiska tecknen standardiserades av kejsare Qin Shihuang cirka år 200 f.Kr. och har förblivit praktiskt taget oförändrade fram till i dag. De var den officiella standardskriften innan Folkrepubliken Kina på 1950-talet införde förenklade kinesiska tecken som ett led i arbetet med att öka läskunnigheten i landet. Många av de förenklade tecknen hade länge använts inofficiellt, främst inom olika skrivstilar.

Tradycyjne pismo chińskie to odmiana pisma chińskiego, w której znaki mają tradycyjną postać, umożliwiającą czytanie dawniejszych tekstów. Są one dość skomplikowane, dlatego w latach 50. w ChRL wprowadzono reformę pisma, w wyniku czego powstały znaki uproszczone. Pismo tradycyjne Jest używane w Republice Chińskiej na Tajwanie, oraz w Hongkongu i Makau. Nazywane jest także "ortodoksyjnym", "złożonym" lub "właściwym" pismem chińskim.
