Tom Gehrels (February 21, 1925 – July 11, 2011) was an American astronomer, Professor Planetary Sciences, and Astronomer at the University of Arizona, Tucson.

Tom Gehrels
Odkrył 17 planetoid samodzielnie oraz pracując wraz z Cornelisem van Houtenem i jego żoną Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld odkrył 4164 planetoidy. W 2007 roku sklasyfikowany na 5. miejscu wśród odkrywców największej liczby asteroid. Był jednym z założycieli programu Spacewatch. W uznaniu jego zasług jedną z planetoid nazwano 1777 Gehrels.

Tom Gehrels
Ha collaborato ad istituire il programma Spacewatch, volto alla ricerca di asteroidi near-Earth. Si è inoltre reso responsabile della scoperta di numerose comete (fra cui le comete periodiche 64P/Swift-Gehrels, 78P/Gehrels, 82P/Gehrels e 90P/Gehrels) e oltre tremila asteroidi (fra cui Dedalo e Ptah, due asteroidi Apollo, e Rees, un asteroide Amor).
