Togo

TOGO was a Japanese roller coaster design company, famous for inventing the stand-up roller coaster. TOGO went bankrupt in the early 2000s due to a lawsuit by Knott's Berry Farm for problems with their Windjammer roller coaster. TOGO is also credited with creating the first working pipeline roller coaster, the Ultra Twister. TOGO has had quite the reputation among enthusiasts for rough, even painful rides. Unfortunately, a TOGO coaster in Japan was the cause of death of a young woman, after the seats of the car became detached from the wheel bogey. She was killed when her seat slammed into the railing of a catwalk running alongside the track.

Togo, officially the Togolese Republic, is a country in West Africa bordering Ghana in the west, Benin in the east and Burkina Faso in the north. In the south, it has a short Gulf of Guinea coast, on which the capital Lomé is located.

Togo (dt.: [], frz.: []) ist ein Staat in Westafrika, am Golf von Guinea gelegen, und grenzt an Ghana im Westen, Benin im Osten und Burkina Faso im Norden. Bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg war das Gebiet Togos deutsche (siehe Togoland), danach französische Kolonie. Geprägt wurde das Land fast 40 Jahre lang vom autokratisch regierenden Präsidenten Gnassingbé Eyadéma. Nach dessen Tod wurde sein Sohn Faure Gnassingbé unter Missachtung der Verfassung zum neuen Präsidenten ernannt. Internationaler Druck und Unruhen im Lande führten zur Rückkehr zu verfassungsgemäßen Zuständen. Die folgenden Wahlen konnte Gnassingbé für sich entscheiden, wobei ihm jedoch die Opposition und auch die Europäische Union massiven Wahlbetrug vorwerfen. Nach wie vor befinden sich mehrere tausend Flüchtlinge im Ausland.

Il Togo, ufficialmente Repubblica Togolese (in francese République Togolaise), è uno Stato dell'Africa Occidentale. Confina a ovest con il Ghana, a est con il Benin, a nord con il Burkina Faso. Si affaccia per un breve tratto (soltanto 56 km) sul Golfo di Guinea a sud; in questo tratto di costa si trova la capitale Lomé. Lo stato è vasto 56.785 km² ed è abitato da 6.145.000 abitanti con una densità di 97,7 ab/km². La lingua ufficiale è il francese (è membro dell'associazione dei paesi francofoni) ma vi si parlano molte altre lingue africane. Col nome di Togoland fu colonia prima della Germania e poi della Francia, da cui ottenne l'indipendenza nel 1960.
