Tlingit language

The Tlingit language (Eng. //, Tl. Lingít //) is spoken by the Tlingit people of Southeast Alaska and Western Canada. It is a branch of the Na-Dené language family. Tlingit is very endangered, with less than 140 native speakers still living, all of whom are bilingual or near-bilingual in English. Extensive effort is being put into revitalization programs in Southeast Alaska to revive and preserve the Tlingit language and its culture.

Tlingit oder Lingít ist die Sprache des Tlingit-Volkes aus Südostalaska und Westkanada. Es wird allgemein zur Na-Dené-Sprachgruppe gerechnet und ist dadurch mit den athapaskischen Sprachen verwandt. Tlingit wird von etwa 800 Muttersprachlern gesprochen (hauptsächlich ältere Sprecher) und ist somit vom Aussterben bedroht. In Südalaska versucht man mit speziellen Programmen die Sprache und Kultur wiederzubeleben und zu bewahren.

Język tlingit (wymowa: []) to język z rodziny na-dene, używany w Alasce i Kanadzie. Współcześnie mówi nim około 500 Indian. Pod względem gramatycznym jest polisyntetyczny i inkorporacyjny. Najczęstszy szyk zdania to SOV. Język ten posiada ejektywne spółgłoski szczelinowe, bardzo rzadkie w językach świata, nie ma zaś w ogóle spółgłosek wargowych.
