Tiryns

Tiryns (in ancient Greek Τίρυνς and in modern Τίρυνθα) is a Mycenaean archeological site in the Greek nomos of Argolis in the Peloponnese peninsula, some kilometres north of Nauplion.Tiryns was a hill fort with occupation ranging back seven thousand years, from the beginning of the Bronze Age. It reached its height between 1400 and 1200 BC. Its most notable features were its palace, its cyclopean tunnels and especially its walls, which gave the city its Homeric epithet of "mighty walled Tiryns". In ancient times, the city was linked to the myths surrounding Heracles, with some sources citing it as his birthplace[1].

Tiryns (, ) ist eine antike Stadt auf der Peloponnes südlich von Argos am Argolischen Golf. Die Stadt erstreckte sich auf einem bis zu 30 Meter hohen Kalkfelsen, der ca. 300 Meter lang und 40-100 Meter breit ist. Ursprünglich verlief die Küste näher an diesem Hügel vorbei. Der Ort war ab dem Neolithikum (Jungsteinzeit) besiedelt. Vom dritten Jahrtausend v. Chr. an gehörte Tiryns zu den wichtigsten Zentren des bronzezeitlichen Europas.

Tiryns lub Tyryns (gr. Tiryns) - w starożytności położona na Peloponezie cytadela z czasów kultury mykeńskiej. Miejscu tym już w III tysiącleciu p.n.e. znajdowała się osada. Achajowie zbudowali tu swoją twierdzę w XIV–XIII wieku p.n.e.. Tyryns zostało zdobyte przez Dorów około 1100 p.n.e.. Około 470 p.n.e. cytadela została zniszczona przez Argejczyków.
