The family Threskiornithidae includes 34 species of large wading birds. The family has been traditionally classified into two subfamilies, the ibises and the spoonbills, however recent genetic studies are casting doubt on the arrangement, and revealing the spoonbills to be nested within the old world ibises, and the new world ibises as an early offshoot.

Die Ibisse und Löffler oder Ibisvögel (Threskiornithidae) sind eine Familie aus der Ordnung der Schreitvögel (Ciconiiformes). Wie der Name bereits sagt, umfasst die Familie zwei Vogeltypen, die jeweils eine Unterfamilie bilden: die Ibisse oder Sichler (Threskiornithinae) und die Löffler (Plataleinae). Sie sind leicht auseinanderzuhalten, weil sie gestaltlich voneinander abweichen. Auffälligstes Unterscheidungsmerkmal ist die Schnabelform. Löffler haben einen lange, auffällig abgeplatteten Schnabel, während bei Ibissen der Schnabel abwärts gebogen ist.

La famille des threskionithidés (ou Threskionithidae) comprend les 32 espèces d'ibis et de spatules, échassiers terrestres de taille moyenne à grande (de 46 à 110 cm), à pattes et cou plutôt longs. Les ibis ont le bec long, mince et recourbé, alors qu'il est large et aplati chez les spatules.

• stosunkowo krótki ogon
• brak wyraźnego dymorfizmu płciowego
• w upierzeniu przewaga koloru białego i ciemnych z metalicznym połyskiem
• kształt dzioba zależy od podrodziny (długi, cienki i łukowato wygięty u ibisów, a długi, prosty, szeroki z charakterystycznym rozszerzeniem na końcu u warzęch)
• żywią się pokarmem zwierzęcym
• tworzą kolonie gniazdowe, często wielogatunkowe.
