Theophrastus (Greek: ; c. 371 – c. 287 BC), a Greek native of Eresos in Lesbos, was the successor to Aristotle in the Peripatetic school. He came to Athens at a young age, and initially studied in Plato's school. After Plato's death he attached himself to Aristotle. Aristotle bequeathed to Theophrastus his writings, and designated him as his successor at the Lyceum. Theophrastus presided over the Peripatetic school for thirty-six years, during which time the school flourished greatly. After his death, the Athenians honoured him with a public funeral. His successor as head of the school was Strato of Lampsacus.

Theofra'stos, kallad Ere'sios, grekisk filosof och naturforskare, född 371 eller 370 f.Kr. i Eresos på Lesbos, död 286 eller 285 f.Kr. i Aten, var lärjunge till Platon och Aristoteles och efter den senares död (322) den peripatetiska skolans huvudman.

Teofrast z Eresos (gr. Theophrastos), (ok. 370-287 p.n.e.), grecki uczony i filozof. Uczeń i przyjaciel Arystotelesa, w latach 322- 287 p.n.e., jako jego następca, był scholarchą Likejonu w szkole perypatetyków. Był nauczycielem Demetriusza z Faleronu. W swoich badaniach Teofrast skupiał się na filozofii przyrody, a w związku z tym rozbudował metodę obserwacji i stosował ją w badaniach biologicznych, medycznych, meteorologicznych, jak również w rozważaniach charakterologicznych (w Charakterach przedstawił 30 portretów literackich przedstawiających typowe wady ludzkie) i etycznych. Pozostawił też prace z dziedziny m.in. filozofii, fizyki, mineralogii, historii, prawa i psychologii.
