The Neptunes

The Neptunes is the name for the record production duo consisting of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who created the sound for some very successful Hip Hop, R&B and Pop artists in the late-90s and 2000s. The Neptunes' sound is a highly distinctive brand of off-kilter, stripped-down electronic funk with a heavy debt to Prince. Along with Timbaland and Dr. Dre they were the driving force behind many of the musical innovations of late-90s/2000s hip-hop, helping to introduce weirder, spacier sound effects, middle-eastern melodies, exotic percussion, and other idiosyncrasies into the modern hip-hop mainstream.

Das US-amerikanische Hip-Hop-Produzenten-Team The Neptunes besteht aus Pharrell Williams und Chad Hugo und spielt seit den späten Neunzigern eine große Rolle in der schwarzen Musik.Ihren Durchbruch hatten sie 1998 mit der Produktion von Noreagas Superthug. Im Jahre 1999 produzierten sie das Debütalbum Kaleidoscope für die Sängerin Kelis, was ihnen zunehmend die Aufmerksamkeit eines breiteren Publikums verschaffte. Des Weiteren komponierten The Neptunes die Rhythmen für Nellys Hot In Herre, Jay-Zs Nigga Please, Britney Spears' I'm A Slave For You und für einen Großteil von Justin Timberlakes Solodebut Justified. Auch Gruppen aus anderen Musikrichtungen wie z.B. No Doubt und Garbage erhielten schon Unterstützung von The Neptunes.
