The Makropulos Affair (or The Makropulos Case) (Czech Věc Makropulos) is a play written by Karel Čapek and first performed in 1922. Between 1923 and 1925 the play was turned into an opera by the CzechcomposerLeoš Janáček, who wrote his own libretto. It was his penultimate opera and, like much of his later work, it was inspired by his infatuation with Kamila Stösslová, a married woman much younger than himself.
