Sun
The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is almost perfectly spherical and consists of hot plasma interwoven with magnetic fields. It has a diameter of about 1,392,000 km, about 109 times that of Earth, and its mass (about 2 kilograms, 330,000 times that of Earth) accounts for about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. Chemically, about three quarters of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen, while the rest is mostly helium. The remainder (1.69%, which nonetheless equals 5,628 times the mass of Earth) consists of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon and iron, among others.

Sonne
Die Sonne (altgr. Helios, lat. Sol) ist der Stern im Zentrum unseres Planetensystems, das nach ihr auch Sonnensystem genannt wird. In der gehobenen Umgangssprache wird der Individualname unseres Zentralgestirns auch für andere Sterne verwendet („Sonnen“).

Soleil
Le Soleil ( en latin, ou en grec) est l'étoile centrale du système solaire, notre système planétaire. Il est composé d'hydrogène (74% de la masse ou 92,1% du volume) et d'hélium (24% de la masse ou 7,8% du volume). Autour de lui gravitent la Terre, 7 autres planètes, 5 planètes naines, des astéroïdes, des comètes et de la poussière. Le Soleil représente à lui seul de la masse du système solaire ainsi constitué (Jupiter représente presque tout le reste).

Synchrotron soleil
Situé à Saint-Aubin (Essonne, France, ), le synchrotron SOLEIL (Source Optimisée de Lumière d'Énergie Intermédiaire du LURE) est un synchrotron de troisième génération optimisé dans la gamme des rayons X moyens, inauguré le par Jacques Chirac. Sa brillance et sa gamme spectrale de compromis, de l'infrarouge lointain jusqu'aux rayons X durs, lui permettront de couvrir une large gamme expérimentale : fluorescence, absorption et diffraction de rayons X, spectromicroscopie infrarouge, spectroscopie ultraviolet-visible, etc. SOLEIL devrait ainsi rendre service à un grand nombre de communautés scientifiques : physique, biologie, chimie, sciences de la terre et de l'univers… jusqu'à la science des matériaux du patrimoine.

The Sun är en tidning (tabloid) med en upplaga på omkring 3 200 000 exemplar. Den ges ut i Storbritannien och Republiken Irland och har en större upplaga än någon annan engelskspråkig tidning. The Sun ägs av News Group Newspapers, som är ett dotterbolag till News International, vilket i sin tur ägs av Rupert Murdochs News Corporation.

The Sun - poranny dziennik brytyjski, utworzony w 1964 roku w Londynie przez koncern prasowy C. Kinga, jako następca dziennika Daily Herald; obecnie własność News International PLC, filii News Corporation Ruperta Murdocha.
Pismo ma charakter bulwarowy (duży udział tematyki sportowej i sensacyjnej) i cieszy się najwyższym nakładem wśród codziennej prasy anglojęzycznej na świecie - w połowie 2004 r. ok. 3,4 mln egzemplarzy.
The Sun, będący brytyjskim dziennikiem brukowym sprzedaje się w obecnie najlepiej z anglojęzycznych dzienników na świecie - sprzedawał 3,2 mln egz. dziennie pod koniec 2004 roku. Wydawany jest przez grupę Newspapers of News International, będącą filią News Corporation Ruperta Murdocha .

Słońce jest gwiazdą ciągu głównego (V klasa jasności). Jego typ widmowy (G2) charakteryzuje biaława barwa i obecność w widmie linii zjonizowanych i neutralnych metali oraz bardzo słabych linii wodoru.
