Than Shwe

Senior General Than Shwe (Burmese: သန္‌​းေရ္ဝ္ဟ; ; born February 2, 1933) is the military dictator of Myanmar (Burma), serving as Commander-in-Chief of the Tatmadaw and chairman of the State Peace and Development Council since April 23 1992. SPDC is the new name of the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC), established in 1988. He is also the Head of Union Solidarity and Development Association. These positions and titles effectively amount to Shwe being what is generally referred to as the "head" of Myanmar's ruling military junta.

Generalissimus Than Shwe [] (* 2. Februar 1933 in Kyaukse, Mandalay-Division, Birma) ist Staatschef von Myanmar. Seit 1992 ist er Vorsitzender der seit dem 15. November 1997 unter dem Namen State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) herrschenden Militärjunta des Landes.Than Shwe war zunächst im Postdienst beschäftigt, bevor er 1953 in die Armee eintrat, deren Personalbedarf - bedingt durch den kommunistischen Aufstand 1948, den Aufstand der Karen 1949 und den Einmarsch der Nationalistischen Armee Chinas in den im Nordosten gelegenen Shan-Staat im Jahre 1950 - drastisch gestiegen war. Wie die zu zehntausenden Rekrutierten erhielt er eine Minimalausbildung an der „Officer's Training School“, deren neunten Zug er 1954 absolvierte.

Than Shwe (ur. 2 lutego 1933) - birmański wojskowy i polityk. Than Shwe pracował jako urzędnik pocztowy, następnie w siłach zbrojnych. Po przewrocie wojskowym w 1962 kontynuował karierę do funkcji wiceministra obrony (1985). Po krwawych protestach 1988 Than Shwe został członkiem Państwowej Rady Restytucji Ładu i Praworządności (SLORC), będącej de facto najwyższą władzą w kraju. Po nieoczekiwanej dymisji Sawa Maunga 23 kwietnia 1992 został przewodniczącym Rady, głową państwa, sekretarzem obrony i głównodowodzącym sił zbrojnych. Sprawuje dyktatorskie rządy, łamiąc prawa człowieka, prześladując mniejszości narodowe Karenów i Shanów oraz ludność muzułmańską.

Inoltre è a capo delle forze armate birmane e della Associazione per l'Unione, la solidarietà e lo sviluppo.Arruolatosi nell'esercito a vent'anni (1953), lavorò inizialmente presso il dipartimento per la guerra psicologica diventando capitano nel 1960. Dopo il colpo di stato del 1962 occupò posti importanti nell'esercito, passando al ruolo di colonnello nel 1978. Nel 1985 diventò viceministro della difesa,e allo stesso tempo raggiunse il grado di generale,ottennendo anche un seggio nel comitato centrale esecutivo del Partito del programma socialista della birmania BSPP.
