Tehuelche

Tehuelches is the collective name of the native tribes of Patagonia. They are also called Patagonians.It is possible that the stories of the early European explorers about the Patagones, a race of giants in South America, are based on the Tehuelches, because the Tehuelches are typically tall. According to the , there were 4,300 Tehuelche in the provinces of Chubut and Santa Cruz, and a further 1,637 in other parts of Argentina.

Les Tehuelches sont des Amérindiens de Patagonie, vivant entre le fleuve Río Negro et le détroit de Magellan essentiellement en territoire argentin et chilien. Ils étaient réputés pour être de très grande taille et semblent avoir été à la base du grand mythe des géants patagons.

Als Patagonier (von span. patagón, etwa Großfüßer) bezeichnet man die südlichsten Indianerstämme in Südamerika auf dem Gebiet Patagoniens, das heute zu Argentinien und Chile gehört. Die Bezeichnung stammt von den Entdeckern, die im 16. Jahrhundert die Region bereisten und von den großen Fußabdrücken dieser Indianer beeindruckt waren. Die südlichen Gruppen von ihnen, die auf der Insel Feuerland leben, werden auch Feuerländer genannt.

El pueblo tehuelche o "patagón" (del mapudungun chewelche "gente bravía" o de un nombre para la parcialidad teushen más la palabra mapuche , "gente, pueblo") es un muy conspicuo grupo de etnias amerindias de la Patagonia.
